Sponsored by the Center for Life Calling and Leadership, Reality 101 allows over 1,000 eighth graders from nine Grant County middle school programs the opportunity to experience one day in the life of a 28-year old adult, complete with selecting a career, paying taxes and managing a monthly salary.
Designed to emphasize the value of planning for the future, the event encourages students to do their best in school as well as teaches the importance of defining goals and thinking through ways to achieve them. As a result, these young adults gain a more realistic view of what real life entails. It also gives a greater appreciation for the challenges faced by their parents and guardians.
Reality 101 spans over six days, involves four separate activity rotations, and requires over 2,500 volunteer hours. Before the day is through, these middle school kids will have toured a university campus, listened to college students share about college life, explored career fields of interest, and survived the Reality 101 Maze!
The event receives support from students & staff of three area colleges, local organizations & community members, demonstrating our collective dedication to the growth and education of this next generation.
Volunteers staff booths, lead tours, serve as chaperones, direct activities, and guide students as they travel through "life." To volunteer, please complete and return the Volunteer Registration Form.
